 The Prayer of Iēsous

John 17

Jesus spoke these things, and having lifted up his eyes to heavens he said: Father, the hour is come. Glorify your son, in order that the son glorify you. 2 Just as you gave to him authoritya over all flesh, in order that all that you gave to him, he give to them zōē-lifeb eternal. 3 This is zōē-lifeb eternal, that they knowc you, the only true God, and whom you sent, Iēsous Christ. 4 I glorified you upon the earth, having completed the work that you gave me in order that I do it; 5 and now glorify me, father, in your presence“beside you”, “with you” in the sense of “in your presence”, “in the same place”. In John 17 the same construct occurs in John.17:5 (twice), and in John.17:8 with the glory that I had in your presence“beside you”, “with you” in the sense of “in your presence”, “in the same place”. In John 17 the same construct occurs in John.17:5 (twice), and in John.17:8 before the worldd was.

6 I revealed your name to the peoplee whom you gave to me out of the worldd. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have keptf your wordg. 7 Now they knowc that all, whatsoever you gave to me, is from you; 8 that the wordsh you gave to me I have given to them, and they received them and they knewc truly that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I aski concerning them, not concerning the worldd do I aski, but concerning whom you have given me, because they are yours, 10 and all mine is yours and yours mine, and I have been glorified by them. 11 And no longer am I in the worldd, and yet they are in the worldd, and I come to you. Holy father, keepf them in your name that you have given to me, in order that they be one just as we are. 12 When I was with them, I was keepingf them in your name that you have given me, and I guardedf them and no one of them was destroyedj except the son of destructionk, in order that the Scripture be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to you, and I speak these things in the worldd in order that they have my joy made full in them. 14 I have given them your wordg, and the worldd hated them, because they are not of the worldd, just as I am not of the worldd. 15 I do not aski that you take them out of the worldd, but that you keep them from the wicked one. 16 They are not of the worldd just as I am not of the worldd. 17 Make them holy in the truth; your wordg is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the worldd, I also sent them into the worldd. 19 And in their behalf do I make myself holy, in order that they also be made holy in the truth.

20 But not concerning these only do I aski, but also concerning those believing in me through their wordg, 21 in order that they all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, in order that they also be in us, in order that the worldd believe that you sent me. 22 And the glory that you have given to me I have given to them, in order that they be one just as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, in order that they be perfectedl into one [thing]m, in order that the worldd knowc you sent me and that you agapē-loved them just as you agapē-loved me.

24 Father, whom you have given me, I wish that where I am they also be with me, in order that they behold my glory, which you have given to me, because you agapē-loved me before the foundation of the worldd. 25 Just Father, the worldd also knewc you not, but I knewc you, and these men knewc that you sent me; 26 and I made known to them your name and I will continue to make it known, in order that the agapē-love with which you agapē-loved me be in them and I in them.
